My latest projects

I haven't had much time to write or create new palettes lately and I apologize for that. I had few projects going on at the same time and to be honest, I am learning how to manage that, it can be overwhelming at times, but I am enjoying it!
I thought I would share them with you (some of them are not done yet though) and get your feedbacks.
The first one was a house in Richmond, my client were leaving a couple of days after our first meeting, and she wanted everything done before she gets on the plane, talk about working under pressure! So the whole project took two days to accomplish, no need to tell you how tired but pleased I was at the end.

For the living room I chose to work with a cream/grey palette and add a purple accent to it. My little man on the piano seemed very happy in his new home.
My client already had her dining table , but the chairs were too dark for the room , so I used them in the kitchen (left one in the corner of the dining room) and got her those fabric chairs instead.

Stay tuned for more pictures of that project, and let me know what you think so far :)

A Happy Client makes a Happy Designer

Pinterest

My lovely client Jacqueline sent me testimony to add to my website, as a designer, it is the best reward I can get, to know that my clients are happy.
How sweet is she?

" I am one of the many satisfied customers who have used Nour’s services . Before I met Nour I used to spend hours on the internet trying to find ways to make my house modern and pretty, and as much as you look for it, more confuse you get. There are too many things out there and when you are on a tight budget it is very hard to make a decision.

Nour recognizes the value of extraordinary service, thrives to maintain that, and shows professional concern for the quality of work performed, she helped me find great furniture and art objects at great prices, and she was able to take my ideas and transform them into realities. My house is now clutter free, modern and colorful.

It was a pleasure to work with Nour on my new apartment."

Interview with a Designer from Vancouver

Few weeks ago, my childhood friend Mona Sultan invited me to her line of printed scarves "Word on the Street" launch party.
I had a great time and her beautiful scarves looked fabulous on those mannequins. The design of the scarf is fresh, simple and elegant,  wether you wear them with a casual jeans and tank top or pair them with a pretty black dress, i can guarantee you that you will turn heads.

Mona is a Surface Designer and a blogger, we were classmates in Damascus and the fates decided that we meet again here in Vancouver.
I asked Mona few questions about herself and her work to give you the opportunity to discover that talented designer.

- Tell us a bit about yourself, your background, your education.
I am a Surface Designer, I’ve been living in Vancouver BC for four years now. I am originally from Damascus, Syria.
I have a very versatile background, my grandmother was German, I was born in Tehran, I went to a French school, I lived in Damascus for 18 years of my life, 8 years in Beirut, Lebanon and around 3 years in Amman, Jordan, where I met my Canadian husband and then ended up in Vancouver.
I have a degree in Graphic Design from the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Lebanon. I worked as a freelance Graphic Designer for almost 8 years before deciding to make a shift and start my own business.
- Has design always been something you are drawn to?
Yes, creating has always felt like my purpose in life. At school, all I wanted to do was draw, and art was the only class I excelled in.
I believe that growing up in a very artistic family made it even more intriguing, but my mother was my greatest influence: she is good at everything she attempts to do, she is an artist and a very talented seamstress and her attention to detail is exquisite.
I kept my mother company most of my years growing up, I had one brother who was 14 years my senior so I didn’t have any siblings my age to hang out with, so I watched her create and she taught me many things.
- Can you give us a rough idea on what surface design is?
It is hard to define Surface Design as it is very diverse, one very simple way to think of it is: when an image, line art, pattern, color or texture is applied to a surface, be it fabric, wallpaper, laminate, tiles…
Surface Design is very popular in the fashion and interior design industries.
- How would you describe your design style?
Unconventional, eclectic, experimental, adventurous.
- You have recently launched a collection of scarves. Why scarves?
I always wanted to combine Graphic Design with Fashion, which is why I was so drawn to Surface Design in the first place. And for someone who has had an everlasting love affair with scarves, it was just perfect.
- What inspired this collection?
Damascene mosaics, street fashion, and fashion bloggers Garance Doré and Eleonora Carisi all brought something to the creation of this collection.
- What products related to interior design have you designed? Which one is your favourite?
I have designed wallpaper and accent pillows. Wallpaper would have to be my favourite.

- What are your future projects?
Fall/Winter 2012-2013 and Spring/Summer 2013 collections of Mona Sultan luxury scarves are my main focus right now.
I am planning a Limited Edition collection for SS13, it may or may not be a scarf collection, I won’t spoil the surprise, so you will have to stay tuned.

Thank you Mona for answering my questions, I wish you all the best of success :) .

Make sure to visit her website and like her Facebook page, she is holding a contest to win one of her Spring/Summer 2012 scarves!

Palette du Jour : Hummingbird

This time I got inspired by this beautiful picture of a hummingbird, thus the name of the palette. I believe that the most beautiful combinations of colors come from nature. This particular combination of mustard, green, blue, purple and burgundy is very interesting, and i was curious to find out how would in look in a living space. So here are my few examples of rooms with the same tones, and my picks of the Benjamin Moore colors.

winter's eve    CC-844
stuart gold      HC-10
cedar green    2034-30
bricktone red  2005-30

New Project , Townhouse in Burnaby, part two

I promised to post more pictures of the Townhouse i finished decorating (click here  to view the master bedroom).

My client wanted his biggest room to be turned into a theatre room, he receives his friends every week to watch movies and play games. He fell in love with those black leather recliners, they are so comfy.

The top of the coffee table is actually a computer screen and the pillows can be used as a support for laptops (did I already mention how tekky my client is??)

We then turned what was supposed to be his dining room into a family room:

We still managed to get a decent space for the dining room though. When I came for the photo shoot, I discovered that the beautiful plant I had chosen for the corner had died,  I found a quick replacement for it in the basement but it is definitely less pretty :(

My client is very family oriented, he wanted pictures of his family everywhere, he said he wanted to feel at "home".

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Baby Shower Favors

I know it is not really related to Interior Design, but I wanted to share with you one of my hobbies. It started when I had a baby shower for my son Youssef in Montreal, I did not know where to find pretty favors, so I decided to make them myself. I worked hard with my wonderful mother in law, and I was pleased with the results :) .  I made the tree out of simple branches that I got from a store and we spent two evenings decorating chocolate bars.

After seeing them , my good friend Balsam asked me if I could help her with the favors of her own baby shower, I will admit I felt more pressure because this time I wasn't making them for myself, and I did not want to disappoint her. But I enjoyed making them and being creative! She had a cute baby boy, so i chose blue, creme and white ribbons for the chocolate boxes and I made matching bows to the tiny blue baby shoes.

Last week, I got to be creative again, but this time for a baby girl! Baby Jana had a purple theme, I wanted to try something less traditional, and it ended up being not too bad :)

What do you think of baby Jana's favors? Do you have good tips on how to make favors that you would like to share?

Mirror, mirror...

Mirrors are definitely one of the most visually interesting accessories in a room. They can be a great focal point and magnify the size of any room instantly. Mirrors have come such a long way in terms of shape and style, round, rectangular, lacquer or metal, they can be as beautiful as practical.

Here are five of my top picks, which one is your favourite?

2-  "The Coco Mirror ", by Made Goods:

New Project , Townhouse in Burnaby

I mentioned the other day that I just finished decorating my client's townhouse in Burnaby, I can finally start sharing the pictures with you.
I finished editing the Master Bedroom's pictures so I will start with them.

My client is single and he is young so I kept lines clean and simple, and chose fresh colours for his room.

I love glass lamps, I think they give such an airy look. The bedding and the art wall are from Urban Barn.

My client is super geeky (he designs apps for Apple) but I only allowed one screen in that room! Don't you love those cute flower paintings?

And here is the master Bathroom, it is a bit too matchy matchy for my taste but he liked the whole set.

I will share more pictures oh the house soon, until then, have a great weekend and Happy Easter!
